Set in a rural village near Changbai Mountain in Northeast China in 1977, this series is a folk‑legend rebirth‑themed supernatural tale. In his past life, Chen Zhen’an was a compulsive gambler and alcoholic who abused his wife Lin Anrou, squandered the family fortune, and met a miserable end. Reborn back in time, he is filled with remorse. He resolves to atone for his mistakes, pay off his gambling debts, protect his wronged wife Lin Anrou, and revive the Chen family’s generations‑old hunting craft. Meanwhile, strange changes stir deep within Changbai Mountain. Horned black flood‑dragons occupy the mountains. Disturbed by dragon energy, all kinds of mountain spirits flee outward. Demons such as mountain demons, ghost‑servants and ghost spiders run rampant, and hunters dare no longer venture into the wilderness. His enemies Wang Dazhuang and Wang Erhu come to collect debts, coveting the Town‑Mountain Bow, the Chen family’s ancestral relic. Pushed to the brink, Chen Zhen’an shoulders the ancient black bow and steps into the perilous Changbai Mountain. Battling ferocious beasts along the way, his blood accidentally soaks the Town‑Mountain Bow. The premier‑hunter relic recognizes him as its master. His body is strengthened, his senses sharpen, and extraordinary powers awaken. Deep in the woods, Chen Zhen’an encounters spirits from Northeast Chinese folklore. He survives deadly trials including the yellow weasel’s ritual for divine status and a brutal fight against a skin‑flaying mountain demon. Several times he teeters on death’s door, yet he earns a precious medicinal herb as repayment from a yellow weasel for keeping his word. He returns home laden with game, silencing mocking villagers and earning a large sum to pay part of his debts.
